Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Shift Engineer - Second Class to join the Power Plant team at Vancouver General Hospital. Apply today to join our team!
As a Shift Engineer - Second Class with VCH you will:
Operate, repair and maintain a high pressure (600psig+), high temperature (750 F Superheat), primary combined cycle, parallel co-generation thermal Power Plant with currently installed capacity of 2890 boiler horsepower, as required by the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Regulations to produce steam and primary power; including the operations of boilers, feed water pumps, turbines, power distribution centres and related auxiliary equipment which changes as Plant operating and site strategies evolve, and currently includes:
600 psig Boilers,
150 psig Boilers,
1MW 4160 volt turbo-generators,
1000 psig feed water pumps,
(225 KW and 500 KW) diesel generators,
440V, 4160V and 12800V transformers and switchgear,
1600KW stand-by generators.
Provide work direction to Assistant Shift Engineers by coordinating work activities, providing guidance/technical advice, training and orientation.

Requirements

• Grade 12 plus five years' recent related experience in a first class industrial plant.
• Second (2nd) Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency.
• Ability to lead and supervise.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to read and interpret single line diagrams.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to instruct other in technical areas effectively.
