Under direction, the Sheriff’s Lieutenant acts as the operational and/or administrative manager of a facility/unit/watch in the Custody, Field Operations, Administration and Programs and Planning and Projects divisions. This role involves performing and managing general law enforcement duties, commanding a detention or program facility on an assigned watch, commanding civil process work, and/or managing and coordinating civil/criminal courts. The Lieutenant may also perform, coordinate, or review investigative services, manage field operations units, and/or manage alternative to incarceration and all training programs. The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office (SFSO) works with the public, the criminal justice system, and community stakeholders to safeguard the lives, rights, and property of all people served. The SFSO keeps people safe inside and outside county jails, in protected buildings, and in the communities served. They assist domestic violence victims, provide mutual aid to law enforcement partners, and offer education and job training to support individuals re-entering the community.
