The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is looking to hire a Sheriff's Captain to direct and supervise work of a major division of the Sheriff's Office. The HCSO is dedicated to serving the community with transparency, responsiveness, and compassion. This position may be assigned to any division within the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and requires flexibility for a rotating schedule including days, evenings, overnights, on-call, weekends, holidays, and requires being on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and 365 days/year. This is a full-time benefit-earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office to be eligible for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible. This position is internally classified as a Sheriff's Captain. In this position, you will plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of law enforcement and support staff assigned to the division. You will also assist in departmental planning, prepare budgets, and create the division's annual report. Additionally, you will maintain effective public relations, handle grievances and divisional complaints, and coordinate divisional operations with other law enforcement agencies and county departments. You will provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with County goals, mission, and core values for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and engage in ongoing professional development related to DEI.
