Under immediate supervision, the Sheriff’s Cadet is responsible for assisting both sworn and non-sworn Sheriff’s Office personnel and other County departments with site security operations, parking enforcement, administrative tasks, and patrol in a marked presence to discourage vandalism, theft, or other illegal activity on or around County facilities. The Sheriff’s Cadet is a non-sworn, beginning career ladder position for law enforcement serving in an apprentice, learning capacity while performing a variety of routine law enforcement support duties. The position is specifically designed as an introduction to various aspects of the law enforcement profession and to help prepare individuals for a future career as a sworn law enforcement officer. Incumbents in a regular, non-extra help position are placed in the Miscellaneous retirement category and are not covered by Government Code Sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311. This recruitment is being conducted to fill one Extra Help. Extra Help assignments are non-benefited and may be used for on-call needs up to 29 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year). Extra help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities open to regular part-time and full-time employees.
