About The Position

The Shelver position at Howard County Library System (HCLS) is responsible for accurately shelving returned items such as books, DVDs, and CDs, and maintaining an orderly appearance of shelves. This role also involves performing shelf reading and carrying out other assigned duties and special projects. The position requires adherence to all policies and procedures and maintaining regular and predictable attendance. Additionally, the Shelver contributes to HCLS's strategic values of community, equity, intellectual freedom, learning, and teamwork, and supports the system's racial and social equity goals.

Requirements

• People skills—ability to work effectively with others and enjoy it
• Experience providing extraordinary customer service
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively
• Ability to understand and retain detailed instructions
• Must be at least 16 years of age

Responsibilities

• Accurately shelves returned items (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.)
• Maintains orderly appearances of shelves
• Performs shelf reading
• Carries out other duties and special projects, as assigned
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance
