Agate is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness and hunger through action and advocacy. We provide emergency services, shelter, and housing programs for individuals and families. We encourage applicants with lived experience to apply. Our values include Integrity, Equity, Humanity, and Creativity. The Outreach and Shelter Department serves single adults through emergency response programs like Shelter, Street Outreach, and the Welcome Center, aiming to build rapport and connect individuals to resources for housing stability and self-sufficiency. The Shelter Advocate is part of a team responsible for the daily operations of Agate's two housing-focused shelter program sites in Minneapolis. This role works closely with other employees to ensure a consistent, affirming, and safe operation for guests and volunteers. Primary responsibilities include managing communications, guest access, intakes, monitoring behavior, cleaning, laundry, meal preparation and service, administrative tasks, documentation, and data entry. As part of a housing-focused program, the Shelter Advocate also provides core services such as offering information, making referrals, and assisting with paperwork or service navigation. Additional duties include attending staff meetings, updating rosters in HMIS, and representing Agate at community meetings and trainings. The overnight shift involves specific hours (9:30p-7:30a or 10:30p-8:30a) and requires employees to remain awake and active, completing physical tasks. Full-time employment includes 1-4 standby shifts per month, requiring employees to be available to work if another staff member calls out.
