Join the NVFS Family as a Shelter Support Specialist to provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and supervision at the SERVE Emergency Family Shelter. Your role is critical in creating a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, helping them begin their journey toward housing stability. As essential personnel, you will ensure the safety, security, and smooth daily operations of the shelter. You will build positive relationships with guests, respond to their needs with empathy and professionalism, and collaborate with Housing Counselors and the team to support guests in achieving their housing goals. This position utilizes evidence-based, person-centered approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, and Harm Reduction Strategies. Consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability are vital for uninterrupted shelter operations and the well-being of our guests. The SERVE Shelter offers more than temporary housing; it provides stability, dignity, and support during challenging times. You will play a key part in fostering a safe and compassionate environment while assisting individuals and families in building skills, accessing resources, and working towards long-term housing stability and independence.
