About The Position

Join Waypoint's Youth Emergency Shelter team and become a steady, supportive presence for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or crisis. This is more than a job—it's an opportunity to help young people feel safe, valued, and empowered as they navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives. As a Second Shift Shelter Staff member, you'll play a critical role in creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment during evening shelter operations.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication

Nice To Haves

Additional education in social work, human services, youth development, or a related field preferred
Experience working with youth, especially those experiencing homelessness, trauma, or crisis, strongly preferred
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and de-escalation practices is a plus
Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Responsibilities

Welcome youth into the shelter and conduct intakes for new participants
Support young people with immediate needs including meals, hygiene supplies, and community resources
Build positive, trusting relationships while using trauma-informed and youth-centered approaches
Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe, respectful shelter environment
Respond to crises with compassion, professionalism, and effective de-escalation techniques
Coordinate shelter operations, maintain documentation, and communicate important updates with team members
Help youth develop life skills, accountability, independence, and confidence
Foster an inclusive environment where every young person feels respected, supported, and heard
