About The Position

Mission: The Mission of St. PJ's Children's Home is to be a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and to accompany them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time. Summary: The Shelter Evening Supervisor under the general direction of the Shelter Program Director (or designee), assists the Program Director in establishing and directing the overall Shelter operation in a manner that promotes best practices and facilitates the optimum delivery of quality trauma informed services to residents and their children. This position is also responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels at all times to ensure each resident’s physical, social, emotional, educational, and recreational needs are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field is preferred. High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ related experience, with experience providing oversight and supervision of staff is preferred.

  • Must provide immunization/shot records; Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and Tuberculosis screening; Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel) and a variety of online database systems, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology
  • Strong analytical and organization skills and abilities
  • Must be able to read and interpret policy, procedures and standards
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
  • Must have good written and verbal skills
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to remain calm and composed in crisis situations

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leadership and daily supervision of direct care staff, Team leaders and Weekend Supervisor.
  • Communicate expectations to staff as it relates to our trauma informed program and accomplishing program goals.
  • Responsible for scheduling in a manner that meets licensing requirements and ensures the safety of our clients.
  • Adhere to and maintain documentation in accordance with contractor requirements, state licensing standards, funding source requirements, St. PJ’s policies/procedures, and all accreditation body requirements.
  • Ensures staff knows, understands and utilizes trauma informed care principles and competencies.
  • Provide reflective supervision to promote the supervisee’s professional development and monitor application of trauma informed care principles.
  • Conduct on the floor observations to monitor Residential Child and Youth Care Professional (RCYCP) and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) competency progress and provide on-going coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide staff with verbal and written feedback as it relates to their job performance—positive feedback as well as corrective action, when necessary.
  • Communicate staff performance with Program Director.
  • Ensure adequate staffing which includes submitting hiring requisitions as needed.
  • Will provide coverage in ratio as needed.
  • Provide input in the area of hiring, corrective action and terminations.
  • Ensure staff meets training requirements as outlined in licensing standards, Family Belong standards, contracts, and St. PJ’s Personnel Handbook.
  • Review schedules and assignments with staff and residents at least 24 hours in advance of activities.
  • Develop and implement training strategies for program staff to ensure knowledge of all regulatory agencies and that they are adhered to.
  • Develop and implement strategies to assist with employee morale and decrease compassion fatigue and burn out.
  • Ensures staff are actively working with residents to help them develop in an array of areas to include: social skills, emotion regulation, academics, problem solving, personal hygiene, life skill development.
  • Assists in the review, selection and admission of residents in the emergency shelter
  • Direct point of contact for all placement inquiries, responsible for communicating with stakeholders and coordinating placement times and availability
  • Ensures staff use trauma informed interventions to help youth develop and maintain their self-regulation skills
  • Ensure staff interact with youth in a manner that promotes a connective relationship between staff and the youth
  • Ensures staff maintain appropriate boundaries with the residents.
  • Observe, document and consult with both Shelter and program staff on youth behaviors and client progress.
  • Attend multidisciplinary staffing meetings; alternate facilitation of those meetings as assigned, and assist with preparation of individualized service plans.
  • Ensures staff attend appointments and reviews for youth as required
  • Provide information for residents daily and monthly calendar as appropriate.
  • Ensure entry of activities and measures requiring entry into St. PJ’s data management system.
  • Ensures incident reports are completed promptly as outlined in the Minimum Standards.
  • Conduct weekly dorm and safety inspections
  • Administrator of the daily calendar
  • Assist Program Director as needed in conducting bi-monthly staff and leadership meetings and designated trainings.
  • Provide quality assurance of data entry into Extended Reach by assigned staff, P&P checks of direct care staff.
  • Must be available when on call during specified 24 hour periods to accommodate the staffing needs that are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Serves as role model for staff and residents by exhibiting trauma informed principles and Residential Child and Youth Care Professional (RCYCP) competencies.
  • Identify, develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with support services (medical professionals, therapist, licensing agencies, case workers, juvenile court personnel, community agencies)
  • Demonstrate and encourage team work across shifts and across departments.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of home and campus
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Attendance and successful completion of a 10- day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position.
  • The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.
