About The Position

You will serve as a Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) in the MRO Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
  • You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
  • You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
  • Screen-out Element: ABILITY TO PROVIDE PRODUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES: (1) Removing, installing, modifying, and repairing sheet metal components on various aircraft types and systems; (2) Interpreting and applying technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals to guide repair and installation work; (3) Performing precision sheet metal forming, fabrication, and welding techniques to repair or fabricate parts; (4) Diagnosing and identifying issues in sheet metal structures and conducting routine maintenance inspections and repairs on aircraft systems; and (5) Operating a variety of hand tools, power tools, and machines (e.g., shears, drills, grinders) with proficiency, as well as maintaining inventory of sheet metal parts, supplies, and materials.

Responsibilities
