About The Position
Cabildo Staffing is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic for a commercial HVAC ductwork fabrication shop in Metairie, LA. This is a skilled position requiring the ability to independently lay out, form, assemble, and complete HVAC ductwork accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision. Starting Pay: $28.15/hour Union Requirement: Employees must join the Sheet Metal Workers Union within 90 days of employment.
Requirements
- Previous experience fabricating commercial HVAC ductwork in a sheet metal fabrication shop - Light gauge ductwork
- AWS D1.1 Welding Certification
- Ability to independently lay out, form, and assemble ductwork.
- Strong knowledge of duct fittings, seams, joints, gauges, reinforcements, and fabrication methods.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform trade-related calculations accurately.
- Ability to read and work from fabrication drawings and shop plans.
- Experience operating standard sheet metal fabrication equipment safely.
- Dependable with strong attendance and punctuality.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication details, and ductwork specifications.
- Independently lay out and form rectangular, round, and specialty ductwork and fittings.
- Fabricate elbows, transitions, offsets, reducers, taps, plenums, and equipment connections.
- Operate fabrication equipment safely, including brakes, shears, rolls, forming equipment, spot welders, and hand tools.
- Assemble ductwork using appropriate seams, joints, reinforcements, and hardware.
- Verify dimensions and completed work for accuracy and quality.
- Meet production schedules and fabrication deadlines.
- Minimize material waste and properly handle galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other sheet metals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and quality standards.
- Assist and mentor less-experienced shop personnel as needed.
