About The Position

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic J4 to join their team in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is part of the Sheet Metal Shop and involves ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets. The position requires the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products for shipboard construction, HVAC, and habitability. The mechanic will also be responsible for outfitting metal joiner bulkheads, doors, berths, galleys, and offices, and operating various sheet metal fabrication equipment. The role requires little to no supervision and involves writing WAFs and hot work tickets, as well as performing trade quality assurance work.

Requirements

  • Must meet all Journeyman 3 Sheetmetal Mechanic requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to layout, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products related to shipboard construction HVAC and habitability.
  • Excellent knowledge of the various types of metals and size.
  • Excellent knowledge of Habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys and office outfitting.
  • Proficiency in operating press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, and general sheet metal fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to write WAFs and hot work tickets.
  • Ability to perform trade quality assurance work with little to no supervision.
