About The Position

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic J4 to join their team in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is part of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, which focuses on ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and defense assets. The position involves working in the Sheet Metal Shop with opportunities to contribute to important and exciting projects.

Requirements

• Must meet all Journeyman 3 Sheetmetal Mechanic requirements.
• Excellent knowledge of the various types of metals and sizes.
• Excellent knowledge of Habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys and office outfitting.
• Ability to operate press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, general sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• Ability to write WAFs and hot work tickets.
• Ability to perform trade quality assurance work, with little to no supervision.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Layout, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products related to shipboard construction HVAC and habitability.
• Perform Habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys and office outfitting.
• Operate press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, and general sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• Write WAFs and hot work tickets.
• Perform trade quality assurance work with little to no supervision.
