About The Position
Metro Mechanical is hiring for a Shop Sheet Metal Fabricator in Hammond, LA. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience fabricating commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal components in a shop environment. This position requires someone who can read plans and shop drawings, accurately measure and lay out materials, and produce quality ductwork while maintaining a safe and organized workspace.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, preferably within commercial HVAC/mechanical construction
- Strong knowledge of HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation practices
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, blueprints, and shop drawings
- Proficient with sheet metal hand tools and fabrication equipment
- Experience fabricating rectangular and/or spiral ductwork and fittings
- Strong understanding of sheet metal layout, measurements, and fabrication techniques
- Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize work and meet production deadlines
- Must be able to safely lift and move materials as required
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Nice To Haves
- Commercial HVAC or mechanical construction experience
- Experience working in a dedicated duct fabrication/shop environment
- Experience with computerized or automated sheet metal fabrication equipment
- Experience with plasma cutting or CNC equipment
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Formal sheet metal apprenticeship or technical training
Responsibilities
- Fabricate commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal components according to drawings, specifications, and job requirements
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and ductwork plans
- Measure, lay out, cut, bend, form, and assemble sheet metal accurately
- Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment, including shears, brakes, plasma cutters, Pittsburgh machines, and other shop equipment
- Fabricate rectangular and spiral ductwork, fittings, transitions, elbows, dampers, and other HVAC components
- Ensure all fabricated pieces meet required dimensions, specifications, and quality standards
- Inspect completed work for accuracy, fit, and workmanship
- Work closely with project managers, field personnel, and other shop team members to meet production schedules
- Identify material requirements and minimize material waste
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Perform routine maintenance and safely operate shop tools and equipment
- Assist with loading and preparing fabricated materials for delivery to job sites
- Other duties as assigned
