Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, or a related scientific field.
  • 7+ years of direct SHE experience, with at least 3 years in R&D environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local SHE regulations.
  • Experience with risk assessment, hazardous waste management, and incident investigation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and manage change across multiple teams and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification (e.g., CSP, CHMM) is strongly preferred.
  • Emergency response and incident command experience is a plus.
  • Process safety experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive SHE programs tailored to the unique and evolving hazards of a research environment.
  • Serve as the expert on all SHE matters, partnering with researchers, engineers, and leadership to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce site-specific SHE programs, policies, and procedures, and align with corporate SHE standards.
  • Ensure the site maintains full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses for new and existing R&D processes, equipment, and hazardous materials.
  • Lead and manage all SHE incident investigations, including spills, injuries, and near misses, using root cause analysis to implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Oversee the site's hazardous waste program, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal in accordance with all regulations.
  • Develop and deliver mandatory SHE training for all lab personnel, employees, and contractors.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all SHE-related questions and concerns.
  • Develop and lead the site's emergency response plan and team, ensuring readiness for all potential incidents.
  • Prepare and submit all required internal and external reports on SHE performance, incidents, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with all levels of the organization to promote a strong SHE culture where safety is a shared value and everyone is accountable.
