About The Position

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a highly regarded strategic policy institute dedicated to informing and influencing public policies aimed at reducing poverty, promoting equity, and fostering opportunities. CBPP has a national reputation for its rigorous research and analysis, its development of evidence-based policy ideas and strategies, and its significant impact on policy debates at both federal and state levels. The organization focuses on improving the lives of low- and moderate-income individuals and examines the effects of policies on specific groups, including people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. CBPP is recognized for its ability to combine in-depth, timely analysis with effective communication strategies that resonate with policymakers and the media. The State Fiscal Policy (SFP) team conducts research and analysis on state-level tax and budget developments, with a particular emphasis on their impact on low-income families and individuals. Their research areas encompass budget and tax reform, the relationship between taxes and economic development, anti-poverty programs and tax policies, criminal justice, higher education, K-12 education, and immigration. The SFP team also plays a crucial role in coordinating and providing support to the State Priorities Partnership (SPP), a national network of 42 state-based organizations actively involved in state fiscal policy work. The SFP Operations and Strategic Project Initiative (OPI) intern will contribute to SFP’s regrant-driven project initiatives and programs, while also assisting in the enhancement of cross-team business practices. The intern's responsibilities will include providing support for various communications and logistics, facilitating knowledge sharing within the SPP network, aiding in the planning of events and trainings, and conducting research and implementing business process improvements. Specific tasks may involve compiling learning resources for the SFP team and the SPP network, scheduling and assisting in the facilitation of stakeholder meetings, supporting database management, and other duties essential for smooth project operations.
