Older adults are among those most impacted by hunger, yet 1 in 6 adults aged 50+ in Cook County face food insecurity. Hunger forces older adults into a decision of whether to secure food or other critical needs, such as medicine. The Food Depository works intentionally through partnerships to break down barriers of nutrition access for specific populations. In addition to the 400+ programs that are open to the public, the Food Depository supports an additional 230 programs geared towards the older adult population. During the summer months, the Food Depository administers the Summer Farmer’s Market Senior Nutrition Program (SFMNP), distributing coupon booklets to qualified older adults which can be spent on eligible items at farmers’ markets. In 2025, 11,200 booklets were distributed to older adults in Chicago. The SFMNP Program Coordinator (Temporary) will work both in the Food Depository office providing administrative support to the SFMNP program and in the community providing distribution support to hosting sites. This position is essential to ensuring that older adults throughout the City of Chicago have access to quality produce. The temporary position will be 30 – 40 hours a week and start July 6 through October 9, 2026.
