Sewing Operator Level 1
About The Position
This is a safety sensitive position where team members are responsible for their own safety and the safety of those around them. Being under the influence of substances is not permitted on Company premises. Team members must remain clear-minded and diligent while operating machinery. The Sewing Operator Level 1 will perform sewing functions to assemble product pieces under limited supervision. This role requires the ability to learn the order of product pieces, thread needles, adjust machine functions, and return products to the workflow. Problem-solving skills and teamwork are essential to continuously improve production processes and achieve daily production goals. The operator must complete assigned sewing work with acceptable productivity and output rates, meeting specific quality and efficiency targets within defined timeframes.
Requirements
- Ability to receive product pieces and learn the order of pieces.
- Ability to draw threads through needles and adjust machine functions.
- Ability to solve problems.
- Ability to work with a team.
- Ability to achieve quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 80% within 90-day probationary period.
- Ability to assume personal responsibility for achieving quality goals.
- Ability to demonstrate continuous improvement towards achieving 100% efficiency on assigned work within 6 months.

Nice To Haves
- Ability to assemble products using 2 to 3 different sewing machines or as many as needed to produce all products within the department.

- Ability to repair sewing work as needed to support daily production goals.
- Able to share and demonstrate best practice sewing methods with other sewers.
- Fully cross-trained, able to assemble any product using any machine in the sewing area.
- Consistently achieve quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 105% without refresher training.
- Basic knowledge of all job functions within the department.
- Able to assist in all areas as needed.
- Count production work and report to supervisor.
- Able to train new sewing personnel.
- Communicate with Supervisor to assist with problem solving and offer suggestions for continuous improvement.
- Setup daily workflow and assist department personnel in solving any work in process problems.
- Knowing the location of all items within the department and can assist with locating them.
- Fill a production role daily.
- Fill in for Supervisor at meetings as needed.
- Assist with inventory.
- Assist manager in handling daily personnel issues.
- Lead by example, treat all employees with respect.
- Demonstrate excellent communication / facilitation skills.
- May be asked to take care of sewing maintenance and repairs of machinery.
Responsibilities

- Follow instructions and complete other work as assigned.
- Practice energy conservation, such as turning off machines when not in use.
- Maintain housekeeping of all areas.
- Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
