Requirements

  • Ability to learn the order of product pieces.
  • Ability to draw threads through needles.
  • Ability to adjust machine functions to meet sewing project requirements.
  • Ability to solve problems and work with a team.
  • Ability to achieve daily production goals.
  • Ability to achieve quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 80% within a 90-day probationary period (Level 1).
  • Ability to demonstrate continuous improvement towards achieving 100% efficiency on assigned work within 6 months (Level 1).
  • Ability to assemble products using 2 to 3 different sewing machines or as many as needed to produce all products within the department (Level 2).
  • Ability to consistently achieve quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 95% without refresher training (Level 2).
  • Ability to repair sewing work as needed to support daily production goals (Level 2).
  • Ability to share and demonstrate best practice sewing methods with other sewers (Level 2).
  • Ability to be fully cross-trained, assemble any product using any machine in the sewing area (Level 3).
  • Ability to consistently achieve quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 105% without refresher training (Level 3).
  • Basic knowledge of all job functions within the department (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to assist in all areas as needed (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to count production work and report to supervisor (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to train new sewing personnel (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to communicate with Supervisor to assist with problem solving and offer suggestions for continuous improvement (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to set up daily workflow and assist department personnel in solving any work in process problems (Sewing Lead).
  • Knowledge of the location of all items within the department and ability to assist with locating them (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to fill in for Supervisor at meetings as needed (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to assist manager in handling daily personnel issues (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to lead by example, treat all employees with respect, demonstrate excellent communication / facilitation skills (Sewing Lead).
  • Ability to take care of sewing maintenance and repairs of machinery (Sewing Lead).

Responsibilities

  • Perform sewing functions to assemble product pieces under limited supervision.
  • Receive product pieces, learn the order of pieces, draw threads through needles, and adjust machine functions to meet sewing project requirements.
  • Solve problems and work with a team to continuously improve production processes and achieve daily production goals.
  • Complete assigned sewing work with acceptable productivity and output rates.
  • Notify supervisors of any problems or discrepancies during the sewing process.
  • Perform daily maintenance on machines in the assigned area.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow instructions and complete other work as assigned.
  • Practice energy conservation, such as turning off machines when not in use.
  • Maintain housekeeping of all areas.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
