About The Position

This role involves processing machined parts by setting up tooling and fixturing, programming, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The technician will maintain quality and safety standards, keep records, perform packaging and gauging, and maintain equipment and supplies. The position requires understanding blueprints, engineering plans, and specifications, programming CNC machines, setting up mills and lathes, verifying settings, maintaining specifications by monitoring operations and making adjustments, maintaining equipment through preventative maintenance and troubleshooting, documenting actions, and accepting ownership for achieving company goals and customer satisfaction. Collaboration with the design team, managers, and employees is expected, as is the ability to lift and position parts, and travel as required. Maintaining a clean and organized work area is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • 2 years prior experience operating CNC machines.
  • Knowledge of gauging equipment, including micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to communicate issues and problems to others.
  • Must enjoy a fast-paced manufacturing environment, be results oriented and self-motivated.
  • Committed to continuous improvement principles with the goals of the company in mind at all times.
  • Have the ability and skill to teach employees as required.
  • Detail oriented with excellent mechanical aptitude, as well as ability to detect surface finish defects.
  • Capable of work that requires concentration and physical effort.

Responsibilities

  • Process machined parts by setting up tooling and fixturing, programming, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
  • Maintain quality and safety standards, keeping records, packaging, gauging, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Understand and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces, machine parameters, and geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry, and proving part programs.
  • Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three and four jaw chucks, tool attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, stock pushers, and indicating vices.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work-pieces, adhering to international standards.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting; taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturing instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Accept ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, company goals, and ultimately customer satisfaction with end product.
  • Work with design team, managers, and employees as required.
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Travel to customer and / or suppliers as required.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
