About The Position

The Setter Process Owner position will be a dedicated full-time assignment reporting up through the Howmet Engineer Manager and to the BU Core Process Owner. This role is responsible for ensuring that setter manufacturing processes comply with specified methods, materials, and equipment as detailed in Corporate Core Manuals and associated ASAT. The position involves approving new and revised Activity Instructions, determining the root cause of process deviations, and developing reaction plans. It also requires notifying management and the BU Process Owner of out-of-control conditions and participating in tooling NPI teams with design input for setter tools. The role includes establishing and managing the setter control plan, coordinating dimensional studies, and maintaining visual controls with daily checks of critical process controls. Reporting daily status via flash report and monthly ASAT status via scorecard is also a key responsibility. Business travel may be required.

Requirements

  • BS Ceramics, Chemical or Materials Engineering
  • Minimum two (2) years in ceramic related industry
  • PLC and controller programming required.

Nice To Haves

  • 8-10 years’ experience in ceramic core mfg. / thermal processing of ceramics or thermal processing
  • Familiar with maintenance of kilns
  • Basic electrical, masonry, and mechanical skills desired
  • Lean Manufacturing (optional)

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring setter manufacturing processes are performed in compliance with methods, materials, and equipment specifications as detailed in Corporate Core Manuals (CP and AC) and associated ASAT.
  • Approving all new and revised Activity Instructions in the setter manufacturing area.
  • Determining the root cause of any deviation from a critical process specification.
  • Developing a timely and formal reaction plan which will include the notification of the local plant Engineering Manager and Plant Manager.
  • Notifying the BU Process Owner via email of all out-of-control conditions for any critical process variable.
  • Being a member of each tooling NPI team and having design input for the setter master and rougher tools.
  • Establishing and managing the setter control plan for Transfer, AC1200, and IGT setters to meet core manual and ASAT requirements.
  • Coordinating dimensional studies of setters and cores.
  • Maintaining visual controls and incorporating daily checks of critical process controls in compliance with the core process owner’s leader standard work.
  • Reporting daily status to management and the BU Core Process Owner using the flash report.
  • Reporting status of ASAT items monthly to management and BU Core Process Owner using the score card.
