About The Position

The Set Up Mechanic I is responsible for setting up machines to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. This role involves removing and installing molds, connecting auxiliary equipment, storing unused items, preparing material/scrap handling equipment, and setting up downstream pack stations. The mechanic will also set up item-specific in-line inspection equipment, set initial process parameters and machine recipes, and introduce correct raw materials for jobs. Additionally, they will perform basic preventive maintenance, verify machine safety devices, and promote a safe and clean working environment. For SQF Certified Sites, a basic understanding of cGMPs and Good Hygiene Personnel Practices is required, along with the ability to perform basic sanitation functions and identify/address food safety and quality issues. The role also requires adherence to all company policies, including GMPs, safety policies, HACCP, and SQF.

Requirements

  • High School, Vo-Tech, or equivalent graduate.
  • Understanding of the operating characteristics and capabilities of all manufacturing machinery, equipment, and controls including plastic injection molding machine, cranes, various hand tools, temperature controllers, drill press, pick and place robots.
  • Experience operating a forklift and overhead cranes or ability to be trained and quickly become efficient.
  • Knowledge of plastic resins, mold setup and functions of an injection molding press.
  • Ability to communicate /present information to individuals or small groups.
  • Basic Math- add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units. Compute rate, ratio, percent.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor.
  • The ability to read, write, and comprehend information provided.
  • Stand for most of the work shift.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch, bend, twist, and only occasionally sit.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Heavier amounts can be moved with assistance of equipment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a manufacturing operator.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Effectively operate equipment as required.

  • Support process tech in the start-up and production of first article samples.
  • Promote/maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to and communicate to others all plant Health, Safety and Quality guidelines and GMP.
  • Perform Basic Sanitation Functions.
  • Notify SQF Practitioner/Quality Manager or any other Management personnel of ANY Food Safety or Quality issues.
  • Identify problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the raw material, processes, quality system, or safety system, by performing Production/Quality Checks as assigned.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Execute and follow the HOLD SOP.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Follow all Food Fraud/food Defense Policies while on company property.
  • Adhere to safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Wear company-issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as uniforms, gloves, hairnets.
