About The Position

This is a full-time Set Up Mechanic I position, actively hiring for immediate openings on the 2nd Shift. The role involves operating and setting up various manufacturing machinery, including plastic injection molding machines, to ensure safe and efficient operation. Key tasks include installing/removing molds and tooling, connecting auxiliary equipment, preparing material handling and pack stations, setting up in-line inspection equipment, and establishing initial process parameters. The mechanic is also responsible for introducing raw materials, performing basic preventive maintenance, verifying safety devices, and supporting process technicians during start-ups. Adherence to plant Health, Safety, Quality guidelines, and GMP is crucial. For SQF Certified Sites, additional responsibilities include understanding cGMPs, good hygiene practices, basic sanitation, and addressing food safety and quality issues, including nonconformities and adherence to Food Fraud/Food Defense Policies. The position also emphasizes maintaining a clean and safe work environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • A High School, Vo-Tech, or equivalent graduate.
  • Understanding of the operating characteristics and capabilities of all manufacturing machinery, equipment, and controls including plastic injection molding machine, cranes, various hand tools, temperature controllers, drill press, pick and place robots.
  • Experience operating a forklift and overhead cranes or ability to be trained and quickly become efficient.
  • Knowledge of plastic resins, mold setup and functions of an injection molding press.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Ability to communicate /present information to individuals or small groups.
  • Basic Math- add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units. Compute rate, ratio, percent.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor.
  • The ability to read, write, and comprehend information provided.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a manufacturing operator.
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Be able to effectively operate equipment as required.
  • Sets-up machines to ensure that they operate in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Removes/installs molds and part specific tooling.
  • Connects item specific auxiliary equipment.
  • Stores unused items.
  • Prepares material/scrap handling equipment.
  • Prepares downstream pack stations.
  • Sets up item specific in-line inspection equipment.
  • Sets initial process parameters and machine recipes.
  • Introduces correct raw materials for job.
  • Cleans and performs basic preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Verifies machine safety devices and overall safe work environment.
  • Supports process tech in the start up and production of first article samples.
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Promote/maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to and communicate to others all plant Health, Safety and Quality guidelines and GMP.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Have a basic understanding of the cGMPs and Good Hygiene Personnel Practices.
  • Notify SQF Practitioner and/or Supervisor of any repairs or adjustments that are required.
  • Perform Basic Sanitation Functions.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, and or Regulatory Requirements / standards as prioritized by the Company, HACCP, and SQF.
  • Notify SQF Practitioner/Quality Manager or any other Management personnel of ANY Food Safety or Quality issues.
  • Identify problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the raw material, processes, quality system, or safety system, by performing Production/Quality Checks as assigned.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system. Be able to execute and follow the HOLD SOP.
  • Controls further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Employee follows all Food Fraud/food Defense Policies while on company property.
  • Thorough understanding of all Company policies, including GMP’s and safety policies, HACCP & SQF.
  • Adhere to safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Wear company issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as uniforms, gloves, hairnets.
