Sessional Lecturer- MHI2005Y (Health Informatics Practicum)

University of TorontoToronto, ON
Onsite

About The Position

MHI2005Y is a practicum for the MHI program, serving as the applied learning component of the Master of Health Informatics education. The overall objective is to broaden students' appreciation for and skills in managing health services organizations by allowing them to evaluate, test, and further develop their competencies in a practical setting. From May to August, every MHI student participates in a full-time (600-hour) professional practicum placement, which counts for 20% of degree credits (2 FCE). This practicum allows learners to build on MHI course learning and employ related problem-solving skills. By the start of the practicum, students will have completed over 250 hours of in-class graduate education, in addition to workshops and projects. The primary goal is to provide an opportunity for students to apply the theory and knowledge gained in coursework directly within a healthcare-related organization. MHI2010H supports students' ongoing learning and contribution at practicum placement sites and is offered in the fall term (Sept.-Dec.) upon the course instructor's approval of preceptor invitations to students. This course is designed to be conducted primarily online, building on work and reflection achieved via MHI2005Y. The fieldwork is considered incremental and developmental, adaptable to individual student needs and building on their work experience.
