About The Position

The Sessional Lecturer will provide instruction to graduate and/or undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science. This calculus-based course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of physics, including kinematics, Newton's laws, work and energy, momentum and collisions, rotation and torque, gravity, and simple harmonic motion. The role involves delivering the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach with inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The lecturer will prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments and be available for student consultations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate/graduate students in a Physics program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas.
  • Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations.
  • A PhD in Physics is a requirement for this role.
  • Candidates with advanced degrees in fields that are not Physics, such as Engineering or Chemistry will not be considered.
  • Must certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching excellence in a post-secondary environment especially related to Physics at the first-year level.
  • Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description.
  • Deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.
  • Prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments.
  • Be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.
  • Coordinate and supervise Teaching Assistants as applicable.
  • Co-teach a course at the University level.
  • Manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams and respond to student enquiries in a timely manner.
