About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Instructional Assistant for the course HMB306H1F – Ethical Considerations in Emerging Technology. The course explores the bioethical implications of emerging bio-technology, including topics such as ethical considerations in emerging reproductive technologies, genetic alteration/genetic enhancement, use of life support technologies, synthetic life, and life extension. The estimated course enrollment is 110 students. The estimated hours of work are 108, and lectures are scheduled on Mondays from 9 am to 11 am in-person. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Completed M.Sc. degree in a related field
  • Basic knowledge of bioethics and ethical theory

  • Previous Teaching Assistant experience in a bioethics course

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of course syllabus and course marking scheme
  • Assist in teaching weekly lectures and tutorials
  • Assist in marking assignments and exams
  • Provide office hours for academic counselling of students
  • Assist in setting and marking assignments/exams
  • Assist in course administration in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors
