About The Position

Flat Rate Technician functions as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repairs. Technician performs vehicle repair and maintenance as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards and builds customer loyalty by developing trust and ensuring customers see Findlay Volkswagen as a care-giver for their vehicle safety and reliability. This position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Requirements

Valid Nevada driver’s license
Clear background check
Ability to pass pre-employment Federal drug screen
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Must maintain an inventory of normal technician’s tools not normally inventoried by the Service department as “special tools”

Nice To Haves

ASCE Certification preferred
Volkswagen Technician designation preferred

Responsibilities

Ensures that workshop is clean, organized, and free of dangerous or hazardous materials
Assists in the resolution of customer complaints
Diagnose cause of malfunction(s) and perform repair(s)
Test drive vehicles in order to test components and systems
Conduct multi-point inspections to make appropriate recommendations to ensure safety and reliability of customer vehicles
Proficient use of diagnostic tools and special service equipment
Perform work as requested on service repair orders expeditiously and with accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
Communicate directly with Service Advisors to ensure customers are properly informed of additional service recommendations
Communicate directly with Parts Advisors to effectively manage production
Provide accurate and efficient time estimates necessary to complete repairs to customer’s vehicles
Document work performed on each vehicle on the repair order
Saves and tags parts off the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
Participates in factory-sponsored training classes as appropriate
Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
Ensures that customers’ cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisors immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.

Stays current on new vehicle technologies and diagnostic methods
