This is a Full Time | Hourly Non-Exempt | Monday–Friday position. Five Star Equipment – Northern Pennsylvania and New York State’s premier John Deere Construction Equipment Dealer – has an immediate opening for a skilled Road Service Technician / Heavy Equipment Mechanic at our Waterford, PA location. As a Road Service Technician, you’ll be the expert our customers rely on to keep their heavy equipment running strong. performs on-site diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy machinery (backhoes, loaders, dozers) to minimize downtime. Using specialized mobile service trucks, you will work in the field on hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems. You’ll play a critical role in keeping our customers productive and their equipment operating at peak performance.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience as a heavy equipment technician or mechanic
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment such as John Deere, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Case CE, and more
  • Strong knowledge of engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic diagrams
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Must possess basic tools of the trade
  • Ability to work in varying outdoor conditions and handle heavy components.
  • Comfortable using laptop computers and basic software applications
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions
  • Ability to solve problems independently with little supervision

Responsibilities

  • Performs on-site diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy machinery (backhoes, loaders, dozers) to minimize downtime.
  • Works in the field on hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems using specialized mobile service trucks.
  • Identifies malfunctions in hydraulic, engine, and electrical systems.
  • Fixes equipment at job sites, including welding, part replacement, and troubleshooting.
  • Performs routine service like oil changes and inspections.
  • Ensures all repaired equipment meets safety standards.
  • Works with the Service Advisor and Service Manager to provide accurate machine information, including: Make, model, and serial number, Parts, tools, and supplies used, Identification of additional repairs needed.
  • Observes all speed limits, traffic laws and safety policies while operating company vehicles.
  • Maintains required Commercial Driver’s License class for vehicle assigned and keeps medical card updated, if required.
  • Maintains accurate logs as required for driving; fuel tax, mileage, per truck class; accurately, neatly and completely.
  • Performs daily pre-trip safety check and preventative maintenance on service vehicle, cleans cab and washes vehicle.
