About The Position

The Enterprise Data Center Service Technician – SBE is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, coordination, and reliability of mission-critical facility infrastructure supporting GM’s 24/7 Enterprise Data Center. Working as part of a six-person operations team, the EDC Service Technician provides rotating shift coverage, including 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts, ensuring continuous operation of critical mechanical, electrical, and control systems. The Service Technician operates and monitors Building Automation Systems (BAS) and critical infrastructure including chilled water systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, UPS systems, generators, transfer switches, power distribution equipment, fire protection systems, and building controls. The position performs operational lineups, equipment start ups and shutdowns, alarm response, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance coordination, and contractor oversight while maintaining maximum facility reliability and customer uptime.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience operating or maintaining mission-critical facilities, industrial plants, central utility plants, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, laboratories, or enterprise data centers.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electricals building systems.
  • Experience with chilled water plants and commercial HVAC.
  • Familiarity with UPS, generators, transfer switches, and critical power distribution.
  • Experience using CMMS systems (Maximo preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Ability to read one-line electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and equipment drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency callouts.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Facilities Management, Engineering Technology, HVAC, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary operations representative during assigned shifts, working closely with GM Information Technology, Reliability Engineering, Work Control, Capacity Assurance, Contractors and Maintenance personnel to safely execute planned work, respond to emergencies, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide continuous operational support for 24/7 Enterprise Data Center (EDC)
  • Perform routine operational rounds and document equipment status.
  • Respond to alarms, abnormal operating conditions, and facility emergencies.
  • Complete detailed shift turnover reports and operational logs.
  • Maintain operational readiness of critical infrastructure.
  • Verification of system restoration following maintenance.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Validate Maximo work orders and asset information.
  • Participate in facility readiness inspections and safety audits.
  • Ensure compliance with approved Methods of Procedure (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and change management requirements.
  • Monitor and report KPIs related to uptime, reliability, safety, and maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Assist in developing operating procedures and training materials
