The Scale Service Technician Level II executes routine and advanced calibration, preventive maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and system installation for client weighing equipment within the Precision Measurement Group. Functions with strong autonomy to manage daily field assignments, emergency service requests, and complex multi-component systems including bench, floor, tank, and heavy-capacity truck scales. Serves as a fully proficient technical practitioner, producing accurate ISO/IEC 17025-compliant documentation, resolving elevated technical issues independently, and maintaining customer compliance without direct supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3 to 5+ years of direct technical experience servicing diverse industrial weighing equipment and measurement systems.
  • Possess strong self-management skills to execute daily field tasks autonomously without direct supervision.
  • Quality System Proficiency
  • ISO/IEC 17025 foundational training requirements.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 criteria and accrediting body (e.g., A2LA) field execution standards.
  • Hold an active Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without manual transmission restrictions and maintain an exemplary motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to work on a computer for multiple hours at a time
  • Ability to travel to customer sites

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Service Coordinators for daily workflow scheduling, inventory tracking, and component sourcing.
  • Upkeep assigned test standards, fleet vehicles, equipment assets, and critical shop supplies.
  • Submit test weights and calibration standards punctually for scheduled recalibrations and safety inspections.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) routines on customer weighing apparatus and equipment systems.
  • Conduct periodic intermediate calibration checks to preserve standards stability and ongoing measurement accuracy.
  • Provide field-level peer support, assisting with onboarding and practical instruction for junior technicians on scale operations, diagnostic troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
  • Act as a key branch subject matter resource for routine and intermediate technical escalations.
  • Execute weighing system installations while supporting complex field projects alongside project leads and engineering teams.
  • Assist with basic indicator setup and standard field parameter configurations to ensure proper operation.
  • Partner with internal IT and customer technical teams during installations for seamless device communication and connectivity.
  • Perform job site surveys, assisting with dimensional measurements and technical evaluations for upcoming assignments.
  • Supply technical feedback to application specialists and service managers to support accurate job estimations and project scopes.
  • Generate, review, and finalize precise calibration certificates and service records aligned with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Troubleshoot elevated scale failures and deliver technical remedies across diverse industrial weighing hardware.
  • Maintain branch audit readiness by keeping test weight certificates, vehicle maintenance logs, and lab documentation properly organized.
  • Maintain safe operational readiness for test trucks, trailers, forklifts, tools, and PPE, conducting routine checks like fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Ensure full individual compliance with driving log entries, safety standards, and IFTA tracking requirements.
  • Support branch objectives and operational goals through professional conduct and aligned performance.
  • Execute Contract Review documentation and evaluate customer specifications for field service engagements.
  • Support Customer Complaint workflows and Corrective Action initiatives, providing detailed technical insight for Root Cause and Impact Analyses.
  • Apply comprehensive Calibration Requirements established by client specifications, internal SOPs, and regulatory mandates.
  • Adhere strictly to Document Control policies, Data Integrity protocols, and standard Calibration Procedures, managing procedure deviation escalations effectively.
  • Utilize foundational principles of Measurement Traceability and apply appropriate Correction Factors during active field calibrations.
  • Implement NIST Handbook 44 (HB 44) specifications and legal-for-trade calibration criteria across customer equipment.
  • Maintain mandatory state Scale Technician licensing and active credentials.
  • Hold an active Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without manual transmission restrictions and maintain an exemplary motor vehicle record.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority proactively when identifying potential site hazards or unsafe work conditions.
  • Understand core measurement uncertainty principles and incorporate expanded uncertainty calculations from accredited scope budgets into field work.
  • Complete all required sign-offs for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and corporate Quality Management System guidelines.
  • Fulfill ISO/IEC 17025 foundational training requirements.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 criteria and accrediting body (e.g., A2LA) field execution standards.
  • Engage in quality operations, supporting internal audit activities, certificate verification, and out-to-vendor (OTV) calibration log administration.
  • Model foundational organizational values while actively advancing a zero-harm safety mindset and client-focused service philosophy.
  • Maintain clear, precise oral and written dialogue with clients, operations coordinators, and colleagues regarding service status, diagnostic findings, and field records.
  • Fulfill customer requirements dependably by performing rigorous field calibrations that establish standard long-term partnership trust.
  • Exercise sound technical judgment and apply established SOPs to execute safety-conscious decisions under demanding site conditions.
  • Navigate multi-stage field operations, diverse measurement systems, and evolving job environments in an organized, efficient manner.
  • Partner effectively with site supervisors, client teams, and technical peers, resolving routine project friction with composure and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate high personal accountability to fulfill daily service routes, track standard vehicle stock, and manage assignments without direct supervision.
  • Pursue ongoing technical skill expansion, maintaining proficiency in NIST Handbook 44, ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and modern weighing technologies.
  • Operate operational platforms (e.g., NetSuite, CrossCal) and terminal interface utilities to perform job administration, data entry, and calibration documentation.
  • Sustain upright standing and active movement for four or more consecutive hours within industrial facility settings or external field locations.
  • Perform repeated stooping, crouching, and low-level bending (8–10 times hourly) to service pit-mounted or low-profile apparatus, extending arms overhead for high-mounted indicators.
  • Manually lift, carry, positioning, and shift test standards and heavy calibration gear weighing between 50 and 100 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Ascend fixed ladders, stairwells, and elevated platforms multiple times per shift to inspect overhead hoppers, bulk silos, and elevated weighing structures.
  • Exert pushing and pulling forces exceeding 25 pounds to maneuver heavy test carts, standards, and equipment assets across uneven industrial surfaces.
  • Demonstrate fine motor control, manual grip strength, and repetitive hand-wrist coordination for wiring load cell assemblies, operating hand tools, and driving heavy test vehicles.
