About The Position

Obsidian Solutions Group is seeking a Service Support SME to provide functional expertise, scenario development support, and training exercise integration for Mission Command Exercises. The ideal candidate brings substantial experience from Special Operations Forces or related Army branches, along with formal professional military education and hands-on involvement in designing and executing Mission Command training events. This role ensures that logistics, sustainment, intelligence, fires, and other warfighting functions are accurately represented within complex training environments.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance required
  • Associate degree OR five years of related military experience (may substitute for degree) OR two years of experience researching, planning, preparing, coordinating, and executing Mission Command Exercises (may substitute for degree)
  • Graduate of one of the following military education courses (or equivalent): Captain Career Course, Intermediate Level Education, Basic Warrant Officer Course, Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant Course, Sergeants Major Course
  • Ability to design, formulate, and integrate exercise scenarios into the SOMTC training environment
  • Previous assignment to Special Operations Forces (Special Forces, MISO, Civil Affairs, Ranger Regiment, SOA, Special Mission units) OR assignment in Military Intelligence, Logistics Corps, or Field Artillery
  • Equivalent assignments within other DoD branches accepted

Responsibilities

  • Support planning, design, and execution of Mission Command Exercises by integrating service support functions into exercise scenarios.
  • Formulate, coordinate, and refine exercise vignettes, injects, and support-related operational problem sets for use in SOMTC training events.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on sustainment, logistics, intelligence, fires, and other service support functions relevant to Special Operations and conventional missions.
  • Collaborate with exercise planners, mission command staff, and technical teams to ensure realistic and doctrinally accurate scenario development.
  • Assist in synchronizing exercise resources, timelines, personnel roles, and functional capabilities across all exercise support elements.
  • Participate in exercise control (EXCON) activities, helping adjudicate support-related actions and guiding training audience decision-making.
  • Conduct research and analysis on operational support requirements, emerging capabilities, and mission trends to inform scenario realism.
  • Support the preparation of exercise materials, documentation, and control cell products.
  • Provide mentorship and operational insight to participants on service support planning, integration, and execution.
  • Contribute to after-action reviews by identifying lessons learned, producing support-function observations, and recommending improvements for future exercises.
  • Ensure all support-related activities comply with DoD, Army, and Special Operations Forces regulations and security requirements.
