About The Position

As a Service Manager at United Rentals, you’ll be the leader of a major maintenance enterprise within the Electrical Solutions Division. You’ll have the opportunity to hire and motivate an amazing team of Service Technicians and Equipment Associates. You will maintain and repair a variety of specialty rental equipment and support assets assigned to the Electrical Solutions fleet to ensure safe operation and readiness for rental. You will work closely with the Branch Manager, and help build a profitable location with your leadership, service and maintenance knowledge, and business management. As a Service Manager at United Rentals, you’ll be the leader of a major maintenance enterprise at a Trench Safety branch. You’ll have the opportunity to hire and motivate an amazing team of Equipment Associates and Welders. You’ll ensure proper storage and maintenance of company equipment, and uphold a high standard of customer service in the yard at the branch. You will work closely with the Branch Manager, and help build a profitable location with your leadership, service and maintenance knowledge, and business management. As a Service Manager at a United Rentals Mobile Storage branch, you’ll be the leader of a major maintenance enterprise. You’ll have the opportunity to hire and motivate an amazing team of Service Technicians. You’ll continually improve efficiency and customer satisfaction, by ensuring equipment is properly maintained and repaired. You will work closely with the Branch Manager, and help build a profitable location with your leadership, service and maintenance knowledge, and business management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of operations and shop management experience with background in repairing and maintaining the equipment
  • Intermediate to advanced diagnostic and repair skills for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Advanced knowledge of parts and consumable inventory management as well as vendor management
  • Experience with electrical systems that allows for independent assessment and diagnosis in most situations
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line drawings
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Motivational and leadership skills with excellent customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance accounting and P&L
  • Basic computer skills (Excel)
  • 5+ years related experience
  • Welding school certification for Arc, MIG, and TIG
  • Knowledge of proper hydraulic and pneumatic testing procedures
  • Working knowledge of trench safety related products and applications; advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and customer service skills
  • High School diploma required; trade-school degree a plus; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Extensive Equipment Fleet Maintenance and leadership experience
  • 5 years’ service and maintenance experience and a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience

Nice To Haves

  • IVES certification for boom trucks and forklifts preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair of a variety of equipment, including but not limited to the following: Electrical Distribution, Load Banks, Transformers, Medium Voltage Equipment
  • Motivate, coach and train technicians to exceed time & quality standards and comply with standard repair and maintenance processes
  • Supervise Service Technicians, ensuring safety policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Build strong customer relationships through the delivery of high quality and timely customer service
  • Apply United Rental policies to maximize productivity while maintaining a safe work environment in a clean, organized facility
  • Manage the shop operating expenses
  • Lead, plan, measure and continuous improvement of all service and maintenance performance metrics
  • Meet on regular basis with Branch Managers, reporting any problems and discussing possible solutions
  • Safely manage daily shop activities to maintain order accuracy, equipment quality and readiness
  • Coordinate shop and yard activities among Equipment Associates and Welders to promote business efficiency; When required, provide instruction to Drivers
  • Manage mechanical services for delivery trucks, sales trucks, forklifts and other mechanical tool
  • Order parts for maintenance of rental fleet
  • Manage the hiring, training, evaluation, and performance of Equipment Associates, and Welders, and in some branches, Drivers
  • Maintain records for Drivers’, Equipment Associates’, and Welders’ job training, for DOT compliance, and for accident investigations
  • Conduct employee safety training and coordinate certification training for use of forklifts and boom lifts
  • Ensure a safe working environment
  • Staff location adequately based on skills and workload
  • Responsible for R&M, P&L and associated costs/budget
  • Oversee parts department activities, to ensure optimal customer service, technician/shops/OEC productivity and cost control
  • Maintain knowledge of current DOT Requirements
  • Ensure training and focus to avoid preventable accidents and other DOT Citations
  • Evaluate performance and promotability of team members. Identify and provide necessary skills training and regular coaching
  • Promote a culture of safety and discipline through leadership, exemplary personal compliance, accountability and communication
