About The Position

This is a full-time union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week. This is a fully on-site position with no remote or hybrid options, due to funder and role requirements. The Service Centre Specialist is a front-line role and the first point of contact for individuals accessing COSTI’s Employment Services. Based at the service center front desk, this role welcomes walk in clients, conducts intake and assessment, provides employment counselling and job readiness support, and helps clients move toward meaningful and sustainable employment. Working in a structured, performance-based environment, the Service Centre Specialist delivers high quality, client-centered Employment Services while meeting funder and program targets. The role also acts as a service navigator, connecting clients to internal COSTI programs and community resources using a whole person, integrated approach.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Social Services, Career Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience in employment counselling, career advising, or related community services.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals facing barriers to employment.
  • Strong knowledge of job search strategies, employment programs, and labour market trends.
  • Experience facilitating or co‑facilitating group sessions or workshops.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work fully onsite, five days per week.
  • Willingness to work at various locations across the GTA.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email) and client data systems.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police Check (within the last 6 months).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a strong customer service orientation by warmly welcoming all clients and visitors, creating a positive first impression, and consistently delivering friendly, professional, and client-focused interactions in a high-volume, people-facing environment.
  • Welcome and support walk‑in clients, employers, and community partners in a professional, inclusive, and engaging manner
  • Serve as the first point of contact at the service center front desk
  • Conduct comprehensive client intakes and determine eligibility for employment programs
  • Complete employability assessments to identify skills, barriers, and employment goals
  • Develop and update individualized Employment Action Plans aligned with labour market opportunities
  • Provide one‑on‑one employment counselling and job search coaching.
  • Support clients with resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and job readiness skills.
  • Provide current labour market information and guidance.
  • Coach clients to address barriers to employment and build employment readiness.
  • Transition clients to Job Developers, Retention Specialists at appropriate stages.
  • Plan and deliver in‑person group coaching sessions and workshops on job readiness topics.
  • Prepare training spaces, materials, and equipment; manage session logistics.
  • Track attendance, participation, and client feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Connect clients to training programs, financial supports, and community resources.
  • Refer clients to other COSTI programs based on their needs
  • Collaborate with internal staff to support client readiness and job matching.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records and case notes in required systems.
  • Ensure compliance with funder guidelines, audit requirements, and privacy standards.
  • Meet individual service delivery and performance targets, including intake volumes, action plan completion, group sessions, and client progression toward employment.
  • Participate in regular performance reviews, reporting, and continuous learning activities.
