About The Position

The Hygiene Hub provides free access to showers, toilets, laundry machines, personal care products, and a fresh change of clothes to anyone who is in need. The Service Associate plays a key role in administering the successful delivery of showers, laundry access, urgent-need clothing, and other hygiene-related services to St. Anthony’s clients. Our team is committed to providing trauma-informed care and service, recognizing that St. Anthony’s routinely serves individuals who are in a state of crisis related to experiences of poverty, homelessness, and other challenges—while also possessing strengths that can be built upon with our support. In the spirit of our Franciscan values and heritage, our team provides compassion and care daily. As a steward of healing and social justice, you are expected to meet the following duties.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Prior career or personal life experience providing insight into populations facing homelessness, poverty, or other adverse conditions.
Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills are required.
Ability to be polite, diplomatic, and firm.
Can set limits and practice professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, donors, and coworkers.
Ability to respond to emergencies and high-pressure situations in a self-composed and self-assured manner.
Experience with conflict de-escalation skills is preferred.
Must complete Crisis Prevention training within 3 months of hire.
P.R./First Aid certification preferred.
Must complete certification within 3 months of hire.
Ability to work non-traditional hours and days (weekends and holidays required).
Ability to complete paperwork neatly and legibly.
Computer literacy with essential applications: email, databases, word processing.
Ability or willingness to learn to use information and communication technologies (computers, smartphones, and iPads) to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information.
Ability to be punctual, reliable, cooperative, and stay team-oriented.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to lift and carry bags and boxes weighing up to 50 pounds over 10 feet, with attention to safety.
Willingness to wear protective personal equipment (PPE) while working, including non-slip shoes.
Proficiency in a second language is strongly desired (Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Cantonese).
Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty desired.
Commitment to St. Anthony Foundation Statement of Values and a desire to work for a social services agency serving the poor.

Responsibilities

Execute a variety of functions that are essential to the successful delivery of showers, laundry access, urgent-need clothing, and other hygiene-related services to St. Anthony’s clients; this includes conducting screening and intake of clients, assisting clients in utilizing the services, enforcing policies and protocols, maintaining clean and well-stocked facilities, and recording data related to services provided and client demographics.
Refer guests to other hygiene resources as needed, including St. Anthony’s Medical Clinic, Free Clothing Program, and Resource Center, among other service providers.
Helps ensure a safe, secure environment for clients, volunteers, and other staff.
Observes safety procedures and precautions.
Aware of and assists in the identification of job hazards and personal safety risks, and attempts to prevent or resolve them through the maintenance of physical spaces, de-escalation of interpersonal conflicts, and implementing first aid or overdose reversal response.
Initiates emergency calls as necessary.
Contributes to the general maintenance, upkeep, organization, and re-stocking of inventory in the Hygiene Hub on an ongoing basis.
Complete reports and all other paperwork neatly, legibly, and thoroughly.
Enter data and information electronically as required.
Looks up data and reports electronically through a database as requested.
