Server Engineer (on-site) (No Relocation)

AHMC HealthcareAlhambra, CA
Onsite

About The Position

The Server Engineer, reporting to the Senior Director of Information Services, is responsible for the expert architectural design, implementation, and advanced engineering of the organization’s critical, multi-platform server infrastructure. This role shifts focus from routine maintenance to the strategic lifecycle management of Dell and HP hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, and complex virtualization stacks including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. The Engineer ensures the robust operation and scalability of core enterprise services—including Windows Active Directory, GPOs, DNS, and DHCP—while engineering high-availability and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions. This position requires a security-first engineering mindset to maintain strict HIPAA compliance and requires mandatory on-site attendance to support physical infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure design.
  • Expert-level proficiency in engineering and troubleshooting Dell and HP enterprise server hardware (rack and blade systems).
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and administration of VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare IT security requirements and experience engineering HIPAA-compliant infrastructure preferred.
  • Expertise with design, deployment, and management of end-to-end Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, optimizing server infrastructure and storage replication strategies to guarantee operational continuity and rapid system recovery.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell) and a strong understanding of SAN/NAS storage integration with physical and virtual server environments.
  • Ability to speak, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud and / or hosted solutions experience preferred.
  • Healthcare Information Technology Infrastructure support experience preferred.
  • Relevant advanced certifications such as VCP (VMware Certified Professional), MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), or equivalent are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and deployment of enterprise-grade server solutions, focusing on scalability, high availability, and performance optimization across Dell PowerEdge and HP ProLiant platforms.
  • Architect and optimize virtualized environments utilizing both VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V, ensuring efficient resource allocation and seamless multi-hypervisor integration.
  • Engineer and manage complex Active Directory environments, including the design of Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS architecture, and DHCP failover strategies to ensure continuous enterprise service delivery.
  • Develop automated deployment workflows and scripting (e.g., PowerShell) for server hardening, patching, and configuration management across Windows and Linux environments.
  • Provide expert-level technical escalation for complex hardware, network, and software issues, serving as the final point of resolution for server-related incidents and enterprise messaging systems (Exchange/Cloud).
  • Design and implement server hardening standards and security firewalls to protect sensitive healthcare data; ensure all engineering practices strictly adhere to HIPAA and regulatory privacy standards.
  • Engineer and routinely test comprehensive Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) strategies, including the design of robust backup architectures and failover testing procedures.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous technical documentation for infrastructure architecture, engineering standards, and advanced troubleshooting protocols.
