The Serology PCR Technician is responsible for examining samples for the presence of specific substances (often bacteria) using molecular diagnostic methods. This role involves performing and analyzing results for vector borne, respiratory and GI panels and other non-PCR tests as required. The technician will read and release test results, potentially for more complex tests, and exercise judgment in evaluating and reporting them. Responsibilities also include performing equipment maintenance, maintaining knowledge of lab equipment and procedures, and being aware of quality control and calibration. The role requires finding missing specimens, printing and reconciling queue lists, and librarying all samples. Cross-training and developing knowledge of multiple specialties within the department/lab is expected. The technician will apply job skills and lab policies to complete tasks, read and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures, and maintain a clean and organized work area, restocking supplies as needed. Participation in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation is encouraged, and consultation with senior peers on non-complex Serology tasks is part of the learning process. The role may also involve participation in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other assigned duties. Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
