About The Position

The Serology PCR Technician is responsible for examining samples for the presence of specific substances (often bacteria) using molecular diagnostic methods. This role involves performing and analyzing results for vector borne, respiratory and GI panels and other non-PCR tests, reading and releasing test results, and exercising judgment in evaluating and reporting results. The technician will also be responsible for equipment maintenance, maintaining awareness of quality control and calibration, and developing knowledge of multiple specialties within the department. This position requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The role also involves participating in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation, and consulting with senior peers on non-complex tasks. Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Molecular Biology required.
  • Typically 0-1 years of PCR related lab experience
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments.
  • General science background, including hematology/chemistry helpful
  • Attention to detail
  • Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate.
  • Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • MS Degree in Molecular Biology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and analyze results for vector borne, respiratory and GI panels and other non-PCR tests as required.
  • Reads and releases test results.
  • Performs equipment maintenance.
  • Find missing specimens.
  • Print and reconcile queue list.
  • Library all samples.
  • Maintain all departmental equipment.
  • Cross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
  • Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
  • Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area.
  • Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Serology tasks to learn through experience.
  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
