About The Position

Sergeants may be assigned based on need to either a patrol supervisory function and or a staff service function. Sergeants are responsible for the daily supervision of police operations to help ensure the safety and welfare of patients, visitors and other staff members of UH. The Sergeant helps to keep the hospital and grounds a safe environment free of theft and other criminal activities. The Sergeant also directs and leads the department staff in carrying out the essential duties of their position.

Requirements

High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
3+ years Protective Services or Private Security experience (Required)
Demonstrated leadership potential through performance and career plan development. (Required proficiency)
Proficient in the use of computers and standard office applications. (Required proficiency)
Working knowledge of security-related systems and equipment, including radio communications, CCTV, and motor vehicles. (Required proficiency)
Familiarity with timekeeping systems (e.g., Kronos or similar platforms). (Required proficiency)
Ability and willingness to complete required training and certifications to support departmental operations and compliance. (Required proficiency)
Demonstrates effective communication skills in both routine and high-pressure situations, with a focus on customer service and professionalism. (Required proficiency)
Maintains composure and sound judgment in stressful or emergency situations. (Required proficiency)
Applies job-related knowledge and skills to perform assigned duties effectively and safely. (Required proficiency)
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. (Required proficiency)
Driver's License (Valid) (Required)
Successful completion of OPOTA Private Security and Firearms Certification (Required within 30 Days)
First-Line Supervision Training (Required within 1 Year)
Completion of Annual Firearm, Taser training (Required)

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of an OPOTA Private Security Academy (Preferred)
Mid-level Supervision Training (Preferred within 2 Years)
