About The Position

RK&K is seeking inspectors to conduct regular inspections of onsite wastewater (septic) systems to verify compliance with applicable local and state regulations. Responsibilities include property transfer inspections, system condition assessments, documentation, and coordination with property owners, contractors, and regulatory agencies. In this role you will support multiple projects throughout Baltimore, MD and the surrounding counties. Inspectors will work independently on project sites but work closely with project managers, project engineers, construction managers and other team members on a variety of water, wastewater, and related infrastructure and facility projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (additional technical or environmental training preferred)
  • An independent self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the Utilities, CEI, and Water and Wastewater Groups
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, shop drawings, engineering reports and test results
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Professional Suite including Word, Outlook, Project and Excel is required as well as tablet-based PDF annotators
  • Completion of an MDE‑approved septic inspection course (or ability to obtain)
  • Knowledge of septic system components and inspection practices
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to perform regular outdoor fieldwork
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift equipment and access septic system components
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) to three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible, project experience in construction administration and inspection of water, wastewater facilities and infrastructure
  • Registration or licensure with the Maryland State Board of On‑Site Wastewater Professionals, or ability to obtain
  • Prior septic or onsite wastewater inspection experience
  • Familiarity with MDE, COMAR, and local health department requirements

Responsibilities

  • Inspect septic system components, including tanks, distribution systems, drainfields, and BAT units
  • Perform property transfer inspections in accordance with Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and COMAR requirements
  • Verify compliance with approved permits, plans, and health/environmental regulations
  • Prepare clear inspection reports with findings, photos, and recommendations
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and follow safety protocols during fieldwork
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with clients and project teams including other disciplines, such as designers, and other engineers
