About The Position

Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Sensor Electrical Engineer to work on system design, implementation and release to manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in system design, analog and digital circuit design, possess good communication skills, and have complete ownership of development and productization of a sensor system. The candidate will have strong technical expertise to deliver unsupervised, as well as great leadership skills to work with internal customers and external partners.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • 10+ years of hardware engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in technical support, or experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • 5+ years of proficiency with PCB CAD platforms (Altium Designer, Cadence, or similar EDA tools)
  • Expert in schematic entry, layout tools and design for manufacturability
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design
  • Knowledge of power electronics, signal integrity, and EMC/EMI considerations
  • Experience with component selection, sourcing, and vendor management
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and design for testability
  • Experience architecting multi-sensor systems from requirements through production, including sensor selection and trade-off analysis across modalities (e.g., optical, depth, ToF), signal chain design, power budgeting, and integration of sensing, compute, and data-processing subsystems into a cohesive electrical architecture

Responsibilities

  • Oversee an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, validation, testing and certification.
  • Develop requirements, functional specifications, DVT plans and test procedures.
  • Build and facilitate concept prototype systems consisting of a mix of in house and OTS components.
  • Design, implement and debug embedded systems, analog, and digital circuits.
  • Facilitate product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments.
  • Research and advocate for new technologies and projects to help the business.
  • Oversee characterization of new internally developed or OTS sensors.
  • Write papers to drive strategic initiatives for Amazon Robotics.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide advice and direction to outside projects/other groups.
  • Participate in program and design reviews.
  • Ensure program goals are met, working outside of your comfort zone.
  • Provide structure where there is ambiguity
  • Present work through papers and presentations at internal conferences.
  • Oversee development contracts with outside vendors.
  • Be comfortable communicating clearly and succinctly in writing and verbally with leadership.
