We are looking for a reporter to deliver daily news and a steady flow of features that put the news in context for our readers. This beat focuses on the pharmaceutical industry, from major global drugmakers to smaller specialty companies, including the medicines they develop and launch, the clinical and regulatory milestones that shape their pipelines, quarterly earnings and financial performance, manufacturing operations, and the business strategies, deals and competitive pressures driving the industry. The ideal candidate excels not only at building sources and breaking news but also at digging into the why and how behind the daily stories. Our readers are savvy and well-informed, and they look to us for perspectives and insights they cannot get elsewhere. This person will bring strong news judgment, a commitment to accuracy and editorial integrity, and a genuine curiosity about the industry they cover. They should be comfortable taking ownership of major stories, digging deep when the news demands it and bringing some personality and creativity to the work. Biopharma is a fast-growing world where big ideas come along daily. Our readers rely on Fierce Biotech for the latest news, analysis and data on drugs and the companies that make them. Fierce Biotech covers the biopharma waterfront, from drug development through the entire lifecycle—tracking regulatory approvals, payer negotiations, manufacturing, marketing, patent fights, government investigations and regulation, M&A deals and beyond. Our aim is to analyze the day's news, showing readers not only what they need to know, but why they need to know it. Beyond the daily, the Fierce Biotech team produces special reports that take stock of the industry's products and finances, and shed new light on industry trends.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years' experience in a newsroom, preferably covering the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related writing-intensive field.
Strong writing skills and proficiency in AP style.
A competitive spirit and drive to break news and scoop the competition.
Most importantly, a positive attitude, "Fierce" work ethic, and enthusiasm for being part of a team of journalists committed to delivering sharp, accessible business journalism.

Responsibilities

Writing daily news stories and longer-form articles covering the pharmaceutical industry.
Developing the beat and cultivating a range of sources at pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, manufacturing organizations and other industry groups, as well as industry experts and analysts.
Researching government databases, court documents, securities filings and other public sources for untold stories.
Brainstorming and developing engaging features that provide deeper context and insight for Fierce Pharma’s reader community.
Contributing to podcasts and other multimedia projects.
Attending key medical meetings and industry conferences.
