About The Position

Questex is currently seeking an Editor to join the Fierce Biotech Team. Fierce Life Sciences offers a full suite of news, analysis and event education, all in one place. From preclinical research to market and beyond, our team of editors and handpicked experts deliver insights you can source with confidence and events, both virtual and live, that support professional and business growth. As our Editor, you’ll support Questex’s success by editing daily biotech news stories, features and analysis for accuracy, clarity, structure and impact. You will also report and write your own daily news stories, features and other enterprise coverage. You will work closely with the senior editor to set daily coverage priorities and identify the stories Fierce Biotech should own. Additionally, you will help manage the daily Fierce Biotech newsletter, including selecting and ordering stories, writing newsletter copy and ensuring it is ready to publish on deadline. You will take the lead on daily editorial operations when the senior editor is away. You will move quickly on breaking news while helping reporters identify smart follow-ups, broader trends and opportunities for deeper reporting. You will also help reporters sharpen story angles, strengthen reporting and develop their voices. You will contribute to special reports, recurring editorial franchises and other newsroom initiatives. You will participate in Fierce events, including moderating panels and interviews, helping develop editorial programming and representing the brand onstage. Finally, you will collaborate with colleagues across Fierce Biotech, Fierce Pharma and the broader newsroom on major stories and projects.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of professional journalism experience, with experience covering biotech.
  • Editing experience and the ability to confidently edit daily news stories on tight deadlines.
  • A strong understanding of the biotech industry, including drug development, clinical trials, financing, dealmaking, regulation and the companies and people shaping the sector.
  • The ability to report and write quickly without sacrificing accuracy, context or clarity.
  • Strong news judgment and an instinct for which developments matter most to Fierce Biotech’s audience.
  • Experience working in a fast-moving digital newsroom.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and a team-first approach.
  • An interest in live journalism and the ability to moderate interviews or panel discussions in front of an industry audience.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
