Senior Wire Harness Design Engineer - Small Platforms

TEKsystems•Austin, TX
•$140,000 - $170,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Wire Harness Design Engineer will own both the architecture and implementation of prefabricated wiring systems for the Small Platforms product line. The role combines responsibilities that may be split between separate positions at larger companies, and requires independent design decisions and close coordination with mechanical engineering because harness design directly informs mechanical integration. The work covers products across all maturity stages, from a platform in active production to platforms in early concept or first-hardware phases. Approximately 80% of the work is computer-based harness design and routing, with approximately 20% on the production floor verifying that designs are built correctly. This is a permanent, fully onsite position based in Austin, Texas.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in wire harness design, routing, or electrical integration.
  • Demonstrated experience owning both harness architecture and implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with an ECAD tool such as Zuken E3, Siemens Capital, EPLAN, or equivalent; a PLM tool; and an MCAD tool such as NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA.
  • Ability to independently select components and articulate the reasoning behind design decisions.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, particularly with mechanical engineering.
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent experience is considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive EWIS or harness design background, such as experience at Tesla, GM, Ford, or Rivian.
  • Experience at Shield AI or Anduril.
  • History of process improvement, including automating or streamlining a manual design workflow step.
  • Brief or informal project or team leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement wiring systems for prefabricated harnesses across multiple Small Platform programs.
  • Route and package cable and harness assemblies in 3D CAD, coordinating closely with mechanical engineering and packaging.
  • Select cables, connectors, and components, and justify design decisions from a functional standpoint.
  • Develop and maintain schematics and harness documentation using ECAD, PLM, and MCAD tools.
  • Support new product design and continuous refinement of existing designs.
  • Identify process gaps and improve team workflows over time.
  • Verify designs on the production floor to ensure they are being built as intended.
