Senior Web Developer

Accenture•Chicago, IL

About The Position

Accenture Song’s Design & Digital Products team designs and builds scalable, accessible, high-performing software for web, mobile, and connected experiences. The Senior Web Developer is a hands-on engineering role focused on building modern digital products and solving complex technical problems. The developer owns features from discovery through production and collaborates with product, design, engineering, and client teams to translate business and user needs into high-quality software. The role emphasizes modern front-end engineering with React and TypeScript, and includes working with APIs, backend services, cloud platforms, and delivery pipelines. The developer is expected to consider maintainability, accessibility, performance, security, testing, and user experience, while using AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly and maintaining appropriate human review and quality standards. The position involves developing responsive web applications and backend services, integrating applications with API architectures, and contributing throughout the software development lifecycle. It also includes collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams, participating in technical discussions and delivery practices, and supporting and mentoring junior engineers. Travel may be required based on client or project needs.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience building production web applications.
  • Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and a modern front-end framework, preferably React.
  • Experience building responsive, component-based user interfaces using HTML, modern CSS, and JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience developing or integrating applications with REST APIs or other modern API architectures.
  • Experience with React hooks, component composition, state management, routing, and asynchronous data handling.
  • Experience with modern front-end build and development tooling.
  • Experience writing automated tests and working with unit, integration, or end-to-end testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Git, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative software development workflows.
  • Understanding of responsive design, browser standards, accessibility, web performance, and secure development practices.
  • Experience working with relational or NoSQL data stores and data-driven applications.
  • Exposure to at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Ability to work directly with clients and cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to independently own development tasks and features while collaborating within a larger engineering team.
  • Ability to travel as needed based on client or project requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Production experience with React, Angular, Next.js, TypeScript, and Node.js.
  • Experience building full-stack applications using modern React frameworks and backend-for-frontend architectures.
  • Experience with server-side rendering, static generation, React Server Components, or modern Next.js application architectures.
  • Experience with state management and data-fetching technologies such as Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or TanStack Query.
  • Experience building or contributing to design systems, component libraries, or Storybook.
  • Experience with monorepo tooling such as Nx or Turborepo.
  • Experience with REST, GraphQL, WebSockets, or event-driven API architectures.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, serverless architectures, infrastructure as code, or modern CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience with application telemetry, logging, monitoring, and observability.
  • Experience integrating generative AI or agentic capabilities into digital products, including LLM APIs, RAG, tool use, structured outputs, evaluation, grounding, or responsible AI controls.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants or agent-based development tools while maintaining code review, testing, security, and quality standards.
  • Experience with authentication and authorization technologies such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, or enterprise identity providers.
  • Experience in consulting, digital products, an agency, or another client-facing engineering environment.
  • Experience contributing to technical estimation, solutioning, rapid prototyping, or proof-of-concept development.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers or helping establish engineering standards and best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance responsive web applications using React, TypeScript, and frameworks such as Next.js and Angular.js.
  • Develop reusable components, hooks, services, and application patterns to improve consistency and maintainability.
  • Translate product requirements and UX designs into accessible, responsive, high-performing digital experiences.
  • Integrate applications with REST, GraphQL, backend-for-frontend, and other API architectures.
  • Develop backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript, with potential work in Java, Python, .NET, or Go.
  • Own features across the software development lifecycle, from technical discovery and estimation through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Apply modern React patterns for component composition, state management, data fetching, caching, routing, and client/server rendering.
  • Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Use modern development tooling and AI-assisted development workflows while maintaining human review and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with UX designers and contribute to component libraries and design systems.
  • Apply accessibility standards and practices, including semantic HTML, keyboard accessibility, ARIA, and WCAG guidance.
  • Improve application performance through techniques such as code splitting, lazy loading, caching, image optimization, and Core Web Vitals improvements.
  • Apply secure coding, privacy, and dependency-management practices.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, application monitoring, logging, and observability.
  • Participate in pull requests, code reviews, technical discovery, architecture discussions, and solution estimation.
  • Partner with clients and cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and iterate on working software.
  • Communicate technical approaches, tradeoffs, risks, and progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
