About The Position

ProSidian seeks a Senior Waste Characterization Specialist I for Program Support on an Exempt Basis for Working On-Site (Client Site) in The Southeast | South Atlantic | CONUS Area (Aiken, South Carolina). This role supports a High-hazard nuclear cleanup environment requiring disciplined staffing, safety, quality, security, and regulatory compliance. The position is aligned with GSA Labor Category: Environmental Specialist Level III and is principally focused on ProSidian Strategic Resourcing and Professional Staff Augmentation for Waste Characterization (WasteCh) Solutions and Services. Candidates with relevant Nuclear And Environmental Management Sector Experience are sought to support professional services engagement for clients such as SRMC. This is a Contract Contingent or Contract W-2 position, but ProSidian reserves the right to convert to a Full-Time ProSidian employed W-2 Position. The role focuses on Human Capital | Project Management | Engineering | Environmental | Compliance | Risk Management | IT Effectiveness | Business Process | Training Knowledge Management Solutions for clients such as Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) supporting the Liquid Waste Program. The primary goal is to provide Waste Characterization (WasteCh) Services and Solutions as a ProSidian Engagement Team Member, supporting waste characterization activities through planning, analysis, coordination, documentation, compliance, quality assurance, and stakeholder support to ensure accurate characterization for safe disposition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a technical discipline (e.g. science, Engineering) and 4+ years of related experience.

  • Primarily focused on Management and Financial Consulting, Acquisition and Grants Management Support, and Business Program and Project Management Services initiatives and aligned with Program Support activities Waste Characterization (WasteCh) Functional Area Activities.
  • Waste profiles; radiological and non-radiological characterization; Engineering calculations; waste certification; procedures; regulatory requirements; technical documentation
  • Technical rigor; regulatory judgment; configuration control; safety focus; communication; problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Nuclear or Chemical related degree preferred.
  • Experience in DOE waste management programs.

Responsibilities

  • Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed. Obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. Take necessary steps to stop work if continuing the activity is unsafe or will create and unsafe condition.
  • Scopes technical tasks and develops creative solutions to assigned problems of basic to difficult complexity.
  • Incorporates conventional Engineering or scientific practices to a broad range of complex technical requirements to meet the Waste Program needs.
  • Leads waste stream profile technical documentation revisions and prepares modeling to support calculations and incorporates into Waste Certification Plans.
  • Interfaces with the Solid Waste Engineering group to resolve technical questions concerning waste stream profiles, calculations, packaging, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership and direction to facility personnel involved with all aspects of waste management, packaging, and transportation.
  • Performs field walk downs and assessments to ensure field work is performed to meet waste stream profiles, calculations and procedures.
  • Reviews work packages for potential generation of waste streams.
  • Verifies, tests, and performs calculations for compliance with applicable Engineering standards and waste acceptance criteria requirements. Performs verification of calculations, reports, and other documents/data performed by others for accuracy and subject matter expertise.
  • Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations based on proposed waste Project s/tasks in area of assignment.
  • Prepares cost and schedule estimates on proposed waste Project s/tasks in assigned area.
  • Performs waste generation forecasting.
  • Demonstrates cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and Project s to meet deadlines and milestones.
  • Writes/edits manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing information about the Waste Program.
  • Obtains safety training, obeys safety rules, and makes safety an integral part of each task.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provides characterization and program support for all radiological and non-radiological waste types (i.e., Low Level Waste, High Level Waste, Mixed Waste, Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Transuranic Waste).
  • Provides broad-based technical and Engineering support for ongoing waste management efforts.
  • Develops and/or performs Engineering calculations to support waste management and characterization efforts.
  • Identifies documentation to be revised (e.g., waste streams profiles, procedures, Waste Certification Plan) based on results of calculations and other efforts; updates documents accordingly.
