The role of the controls engineer intern is to assist experienced engineers with design projects, designing code, electrical drawings, programming and integration of automated systems. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in electrical, controls, computer engineering or equivalent
  • Foundational knowledge of controls / electrical engineering principles
  • Demonstrates good communication and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Support control system development for custom automation equipment, including PLC and PC‑based systems, under guidance from senior engineers
  • Assist with troubleshooting electrical and control-related issues during system build and testing phases
  • Gain hands-on exposure to automation technologies such as PLCs, HMIs, robots, vision systems, and databases
  • Participate with project and CAPEX teams to learn how customer-specific automation solutions are designed and deployed
  • Learn and follow ATS controls standards, including both new and legacy platforms
  • Help document hardware / software activities, including contributing to technical documentation
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating professionalism and accountability in assigned tasks
