Senior Validation Engineer

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

Stellantis is seeking an Electrical Systems Validation Engineer to validate electrical systems according to validation test plans and procedures for automotive body, audio, active chassis, and/or safety systems. The role uses CAN testing tools and traditional electrical test equipment in an electrical lab to test and troubleshoot vehicle systems on properties including Plywood Buck, Vehicle-Hardware-in-the-Loop (VHIL), subsystem Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and vehicles. For HIL testing, the Engineer may develop procedures for manual and automated execution; implement and execute tests using HIL equipment; document and review execution reports; report issues; and track software updates to resolve issues. The Engineer may also perform vehicle-level networking testing and/or FOTA, analyze data, and validate vehicle-system integrity across test properties. The role collaborates closely with feature owners, engineering teams, extended teams, and suppliers to understand EE functions, identify defects early, and provide evidence of defect elimination. It also provides feedback on test plans and procedures to support continuous improvement. Domestic and international travel of up to 20% is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related degree field.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness and ability to drive and test vehicles; ability to obtain a chauffeur's license to drive heavy-duty pickup trucks.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
  • Ability to execute test procedures in alignment with EE Validation guidelines and strategy.
  • Ability to analyze test results, generate reports, document incidents, and drive them to resolution.
  • Ability to troubleshoot ECUs, System HIL, and test-environment functionality.
  • Familiarity with electrical debugging tools, including a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, CAN diagnostic tools such as CANoe/CANalyzer, current probes, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Familiarity with FOTA (Firmware Over The Air).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent or related degree field; listed equivalent fields include Materials, Chemical, Civil, Aerospace, and Computer.
  • EE Validation Hardware-in-the-Loop testing on body, chassis, and other vehicle electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CAN bus and experience using Vector CAN tools, including CAN diagnostic tools, CANoe, and CANalyzer.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical debugging tools, including a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, current probes, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing vehicle- and system-level validation.
  • Demonstrated experience with DFMEA and DVP&R processes.
  • Training in DVP (Design Validation Plan) and DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Ability to determine root cause and debug CAN and CAN FD communication buses.
  • Certified problem-solving skills, such as Reactive Quality Green Belt or Reactive Quality Black Belt.
  • Demonstrated system- or component-automated bench-testing design experience, including knowledge of programming languages such as CAPL script.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot ECUs, System HIL, and test-environment functionality to minimize false-positive incident reports.
  • Implement continuous-improvement strategies for test design and execution processes.
  • Document test-environment, automation, and vehicle-configuration requirements.
  • Drive and test vehicles; obtain a chauffeur's license to drive heavy-duty pickup trucks.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
