Senior Validation Engineer

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

Stellantis is seeking an Electrical Systems Validation Engineer to validate electrical systems against validation test plans and procedures for automotive body, audio, active chassis, and/or safety systems. The role involves extensive use of CAN testing tools and traditional electrical testing equipment in an electrical lab, with testing and troubleshooting performed on a Plywood Buck, Vehicle-Hardware-in-the-Loop (VHIL), subsystem Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and/or vehicles. For HIL testing, the Engineer may develop procedures for manual and automated execution; implement and execute tests using HIL equipment; document and review execution reports; report issues; and track software updates to resolve them. The Engineer may also perform vehicle-level networking testing and/or FOTA, analyze data, and validate vehicle-system integrity across test properties. The position works closely with feature owners, engineering teams, extended teams, and suppliers to understand electrical and electronic functions, identify defects early, and provide evidence of defect elimination. The Engineer also provides feedback on test plans and procedures to support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related degree field.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness and ability to drive and test vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain a chauffeur's license to drive heavy-duty pickup trucks.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
  • Familiarity with electrical debugging tools such as a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, CAN diagnostic tools (CANoe/CANalyzer), current probes, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Familiarity with FOTA (Firmware Over The Air).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent or related field, including Materials, Chemical, Civil, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering.
  • EE Validation Hardware-in-the-Loop testing experience on body, chassis, and other vehicle electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CAN bus and experience using Vector CAN tools, including CAN diagnostic tools, CANoe, and CANalyzer.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical debugging tools such as a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, current probes, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing vehicle- and system-level validation.
  • Demonstrated experience with DFMEA and DVP&R processes.
  • Training in DVP (Design Validation Plan) and DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Demonstrated ability to determine root cause and debug CAN and CAN FD communication buses.
  • Certified problem-solving skills, such as Reactive Quality Green Belt or Reactive Quality Black Belt.
  • Demonstrated system- or component-automated bench testing design experience, including knowledge of programming languages such as CAPL script.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Execute test procedures in alignment with EE Validation guidelines and strategy.
  • Validate and troubleshoot automotive electrical systems using test plans and procedures.
  • Develop procedures for manual and automated HIL test execution as needed.
  • Implement and execute tests using HIL equipment.
  • Document and review test execution reports, report issues, and track software updates to resolve them.
  • Analyze test execution results, generate reports, document incidents, and drive incidents to resolution.
  • Troubleshoot ECUs, System HIL, and test-environment functionality to minimize false-positive incident reports.
  • Perform vehicle-level networking testing and/or FOTA, analyze data, and validate vehicle-system integrity across test properties.
  • Collaborate with feature owners, engineering teams, extended teams, and suppliers to identify defects early and provide evidence of defect elimination.
  • Implement continuous-improvement strategies for test design and execution processes.
  • Document test-environment, automation, and vehicle-configuration requirements.
  • Provide feedback on test plans and procedures for continuous improvement.
