About The Position

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Senior UX/UI Designer to join the ZPE Systems Team in Fremont, CA. We are seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer to lead the design of intuitive, user-centered software experiences within our hardware-software product ecosystem. While the primary focus of this role is software UX, the role operates within a product environment where hardware and software are closely connected, requiring an understanding of how the software layer interacts with physical devices and infrastructure. This position leads the end-to-end design process from user research and discovery through wireframing, prototyping, and production-ready delivery, translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible workflows.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in UX/UI design, with a demonstrated portfolio of shipped digital products.
  • Expert proficiency in industry-standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and interaction design patterns.
  • Proven experience conducting user research and usability testing and applying findings to improve product experiences.
  • Experience designing responsive, cross-platform experiences for web and mobile applications.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility guidelines and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience designing for global audiences, including localization and internationalization considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within Agile/Scrum environments and collaborate effectively with product managers and engineers.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present and explain design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience documenting design rationale and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in HCI, Design, or related discipline.
  • Experience in enterprise, SaaS, or IT/network management product environments.
  • Experience designing software interfaces for hardware-software or IoT products, including device management dashboards, setup flows, or monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and design-to-development handoff workflows.
  • Experience building, scaling, and governing design systems.
  • Background in content design or UX writing.
  • Experience with data visualization or dashboard design for complex data sets, including real-time device or system telemetry.
  • Knowledge of design operations (DesignOps), including tooling, workflows, and team process optimization.
  • Experience mentoring or managing other designers.
  • Familiarity with analytics and experimentation platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Hotjar, Optimizely, or similar).
  • Certification in accessibility or hands-on experience with assistive technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead user-centered discovery efforts to understand user needs, define experience requirements, and shape product design strategy from concept through delivery.
  • Conduct user research and usability studies with internal stakeholders and external customers to identify user needs, behaviors, and challenges.
  • Translate research insights into actionable design recommendations that support product strategy and roadmap decisions.
  • Establish and maintain feedback mechanisms to continuously validate and improve design solutions.
  • Use quantitative data (analytics, A/B test results, heatmaps) alongside qualitative research to support data-informed design decisions.
  • Lead the design process from discovery and research through wireframing, prototyping, user testing, and final production-ready deliverables.
  • Create and maintain design artifacts, including user flows, journey maps, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and design system components that represent the end-user experience.
  • Design responsive, mobile-first experiences that function effectively across devices, screen sizes, and platforms.
  • Partner with product management, engineering, and stakeholders to ensure design intent is maintained throughout implementation.
  • Participate in design reviews, critiques, and sprint ceremonies to maintain quality and alignment throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Design software interfaces that clearly communicate hardware states, device status, diagnostics, and system health information to users.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering, firmware, and embedded systems teams to understand device capabilities and constraints that inform software UX decisions.
  • Create workflows for device setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting that connect the physical and digital product experience.
  • Contribute to the development and governance of the design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and reusability across products.
  • Define and maintain visual design standards, including typography, color, spacing, iconography, and component patterns.
  • Deliver organized, implementation-ready design specifications and assets to support engineering teams.
  • Translate complex IT and network concepts into clear, user-friendly workflows that help users take informed action.
  • Design progressive disclosure patterns and contextual guidance that reduce cognitive load for both new and experienced users.
  • Develop and maintain in-product microcopy and content strategy that promotes clarity, confidence, and trust.
  • Develop and maintain a voice and tone framework for product-facing content that aligns with brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with product and technical writing teams to create consistent, user-centered language across the product suite.
  • Ensure all design solutions meet or exceed WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Design for global audiences with consideration for localization, cultural context, and internationalization requirements.
  • Present design concepts, rationale, and trade-offs to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to build alignment around user-centered design decisions.
  • Promote design-thinking methodologies across the organization and facilitate workshops that support user-centered innovation.
