About The Position

This attorney will serve as a senior university counsel, collaborating with the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy General Counsel and other attorneys on a variety of student and employment law matters, including regulatory counseling; student conduct issues; harassment and discrimination matters; dispute resolution; litigation; contracts and appointments; faculty and staff personnel matters; responses to OCR , EEOC and other administrative investigations; and policy development. This attorney will establish a close partnership with senior administrators in Student Affairs, the Division of Student Success, the Academic Personnel Office, the Office of Human Resources, the University Compliance Office and in schools and departments across campus. This attorney will work on faculty and staff matters that intersect with governing boards, including the Board of Trustees or the Board of Governors. This attorney will be called upon to make a variety of presentations, including, but not limited to the Board of Trustees. This attorney will partner with other attorneys within the Office of University Counsel (‘ OUC ’) to provide expertise on employment and student related matters in all practice areas, including but not limited to research, medical affairs, privacy, litigation, general transactions, and international matters. This attorney will support other attorneys within OUC to provide routine employment and student related advice, manage EEOC and OCR complaints, and assist with employment and student related litigation matters. This attorney will supervise other attorneys who handle student and employment matters for the University.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the North Carolina bar or become a member within one year of employment.

Responsibilities
